The recent birth of Prince George of Cambridge got me thinking: how many other instances are there of four generations in the male line of a Royal House-how many times has a royal great-grandfather (whether monarch or not) seen the birth of his male-line grandchildren?
I can think of:
*The Duke of Cambridge has lived to see his great-grandson, Prince George of Cambridge.
*Christian IX of Denmark lived to see the birth of the future Frederik IX of Denmark
*Louis XIV lived to see the birth of Louis XV (his successor) and the Duke of Brittany who predeceased him.
*Wilhelm I of Germany and Prussia lived to see the birth of the future Crown Prince Wilhelm
*Grand Duke Jean of Luxembourg has lived to see the birth of the sons of his grandson Prince Louis
*Gustaf V of Queen lived to see the future Carl XVI Gustaf
Can anyone name any more; either from ruling or non-ruling royals, anywhere worldwide?
