The truly fascinating BBC4 documentary at

"sheds new light on the greatest crisis to rock the British monarchy
in centuries - the abdication of King Edward VIII. Usually it has
been presented as the only possible solution to his dilemma of having
to choose between the throne and the woman he loved. Using secret
documents and contemporary diaries and letters this film shows a
popular monarch whose modern ideas so unsettled the establishment
that his love for Wallis Simpson became the perfect excuse to bounce
him off the throne."

Quite an eyeopener!

The documentary at

provides irrefutable documentation of the role played by the cunning
Archbishop Cosmo Gordon Lang in orchestrating the coup to topple
King Edward VIII. Lang mobilized the "Old Gang" and eventually forced
the hand of Prime Minister Stanley Baldwin.

Also interesting is the BBC Program "The Uncrowned King -
Edward VIII (1972)" at
