There should be a way to block authors on this site, like in email instead of having to go through all the messages to report spam. Is there a way to do this? Reporting the spam doesn't seem to help keep this junk off this list.

This is a very old list, based on the Usenet protocol created in the 80s. That means that here is no real one person to report spam to. Even if there was, there's no central user database that can ban people. Anyone can send the right text file to the right computer and get it posted.

Most people (including me) seem to get it through Google groups, which could theoretically do something like block anything that includes the term IELTS from their version of ATR, but they have a history of saying "fuck it, we'll just ban the group."

Reporting spam in soc.history.what-if just got the group closed down on googlegroups - curing the disease by killing the patient!

I also receive it through Googlegroups. It's too bad about the spam situation. The spammers seem to be targeting certain groups. It would seem to me that in the long run, by sending out so much spam, they're actually hurting themselves. Eventually no one will even bother going to the group, and no one will even see their spam.

I can't stand the spam anymore so will be deleting this group. Too bad, I enjoyed it.
