On March 24, 2018, at the Cercle National des Armees, in Paris, France, the Regency Council of the Kingdom of Araucania and Patagonia met to elect a successor to Prince Antoine IV, who died on December 16, 2017. Under the Araucanian constitution, the Head of the Royal House is elected by the Regency Council, which is the joint meeting of the Council of the Kingdom and the Council of the State.

Frederic Luz, born 1964 in Toulouse, France, was elected as Prince of Araucania and he has adopted the style Prince Frederic I of Araucania. He is married and has two children. He is a heraldist by profession.
