There are now reports that the King has named his favorite son
(who had been Deputy Crown Prince) as Crown Prince, setting the
stage for the first father-son succession in Saudi Arabia since
1953.

This makes the third Crown Prince of the current reign
(King Abdullah also had three, but the first two of his
both died rather than being removed).

Ever since the current King became Crown Prince he has favored
his son Mohammmed (who is only 31) to a rare extent among the
generally seniority-conscious Al Saud.
I can only wonder if resentment by leapfrogged princes
will ever find an effective voice.

The World Trade Center towers MUST rise again,
at least as tall as before...or terror has triumphed.

The son of the elder brother of the ousted Crown Prince/Interior Minister
is the new Interior Minister...the first great-grandson of King Abdulaziz
to reach such prominence, though slightly older than the grandson who is
now Crown Prince.

The first grandson to be Interior Minister actually held office in the
1950s...although the last son only held office in 2012.
